SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert H. "Bob" Locke of Aurora, who
4passed away on December 4, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born December 31, 1930 in Appleton,
6Wisconsin, the son of the late Floyd and Mable (Wickesberg)
7Locke; he grew up and went to Appleton Senior High School and
8was a graduate of Gale Institute and Midwestern Broadcasting
9School in Chicago; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1952, he joined the United States Army and was
11in the Signal Corps during the Korean War; he started
12broadcasting news and sports in Escanaba, Michigan; he then
13moved back to Aurora and worked for WMRO and WKKD broadcasting
14high school sports; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He was inducted into the Illinois Hall of Fame,
16News Media in 1995; he was also inducted into the East Aurora
17Sports Hall of Fame; he held a passion for broadcasting high
18school sports and fast pitch softball; he was an avid fan of
19the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and had a genuine
20love for all sports; he was elected Commissioner of Public
21Health and Safety for the city of Aurora and served from 1973
22to 1977; and

1    WHEREAS, He worked for many years at Home Savings and Loan
2in downtown Aurora until his retirement; he also served as
3president and trustee for 20 years at Fox Metro Water
4Reclamation District; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Locke is survived by his loving wife of 57
6years, Elsie Kissel; his children, Joseph (Hallie) Locke, James
7(Jill) Locke, Lori Werner, and Lisa (Scott) Felker; his
8grandchildren, Steven Locke, Adam (Jessica) Locke, Jimmy
9Locke, Ben Locke, Robbie Locke, Kyle Werner, Hannah Werner,
10Troy and Peter Medlin, and Caleb and Jacob Felker; as well as
11many wonderful nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by
12his daughter, Judith Ann Locke; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Robert Locke; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Robert Locke as a symbol of our
19sincere sympathy.
