SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Anthony L. Smith of Springfield, who
4passed away on November 6, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was born on August 15, 1967, in
6Springfield; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith earned his associate's degree in
8culinary arts from Joliet Junior College and his bachelor's
9degree in hotel and restaurant management from Western Illinois
10University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was employed as a teacher's aide at
12Matheny-Withrow Elementary School for the past 2 years; he was
13also employed at Lindsey's Restaurant in the President Abraham
14Lincoln Hotel for 17 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was a faithful member of Grace
16United Methodist Church, where he regularly participated with
17the young adults to host various fundraisers to give back to
18the church; he spearheaded the Annual Mostaccioli Dinner and
19the Senior Dinner, where he enjoyed creating menus and
20displaying his world famous culinary talents to feed the Grace
21Church family and friends; he also facilitated the Black

1History Month activities each February, where he directed
2weekly themed activities, coordinated guest speakers and
3generated positive enthusiasm for African American history; he
4was also a member of Alpha Phi Omega, the National Service
5Fraternity, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith loved to travel, spend time with his
7family and friends, and cooking; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith is preceded in death by his father,
9George Smith Jr.; his mother, Barbara Jean Bell; and his
10brother, Timmy Bell; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Anthony Smith is survived by his stepmother,
12Gladys Mae Smith; his brother, Raynard Smith; his brothers,
13Tommy (Glendora) Bell, Charles (Kim) Bell, and Perry Johnson;
14his stepsister, Mary (Fred) Nunn; and his many nieces, nephews,
15other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18his family and friends, the passing of Anthony L. Smith; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Anthony Smith as an expression of
