SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph J. Gentile, who passed away on
4October 10, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago, grew up on the Near West
6Side, and was a longtime resident of the Western suburbs his
7entire life; he was a graduate of St. Ignatius and attended the
8University of Notre Dame before joining the United States Navy;
9he served in the South Pacific theater during World War II; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Upon returning from the war, he received a degree
11in psychology from Loyola University in 1948; he taught briefly
12at the University, and then began a career as a car salesman;
13he opened a Chrysler and Plymouth dealership in Barrington in
141985 and was named "the Baron of Barrington"; he retired in
152003; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In 1994, he purchased an Elmhurst radio station
17and renamed it WJJG-AM, based on his initials; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was a faithful supporter of St. Ignatius and
19Loyola; in 1996, the basketball arena at Loyola was named the
20Joseph J. Gentile Center in his honor; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph J. Gentile is survived by his wife, Carol;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Gentile; and be
6it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Joseph Gentile as a symbol of our
9sincere sympathy.
