SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William J. Larson of Batavia, formerly of
4Joliet, who passed away August 1, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born in Benton; he was a resident of Joliet
6for 75 years before moving to Batavia; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He was highly educated; he attended Joliet Public
8Schools and graduated with the Joliet Township High School
9Class of 1941; he graduated from the Illinois Institute of
10Technology; he attended the University of Nebraska, the
11University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and the
12University of Chicago; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He worked for more than 65 years to protect
14people, property, and the environment, joining the American
15Society of Safety Engineers on May 1, 1946; he belonged to the
16Three Rivers Chapter of the American Society of Safety
17Engineers; and he retired in 1987 from the Argonne National
18Laboratory as a Safety Engineering Supervisor; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He earned the Professional Engineer designation;
20he received professional recognition from the National Safety
21Council; and he received the 1991-92 Charles V. Culbertson

1Outstanding Volunteer Service Award from the American Society
2of Safety Engineers; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church
4of Batavia, and a charter member of the Covenant Church of the
5Good Shepherd; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Thure and
7Ruth (nee, Anderson) Larson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Larson is survived by his loving wife of
966 years, Ruth V. (nee, Cannon) Larson; his son, John P.
10Larson; his daughter, Barbara (Paul) Green; his 4
11grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his
12great-great-grandson; his sister, Mary Lou (Reverend Robert)
13Liljegren; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family and friends, the passing of William Larson; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of William Larson as a symbol of our
20sincere sympathy.
