SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert J. Neuneker of La Grange, who
4recently passed away; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker served in the Army Engineer Corps
6during World War II; he graduated from Western Illinois
7University and married Lorna Campbell from Stronghurst in 1950;
8they attended Ball State University, earning their master's
9degrees in education in 1955; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker's work as a vocational teacher and
11counselor allowed him to emphasize the importance of choosing a
12career at a very early stage in life and led him to initiate
13Career Day, an annual event in which many business, industry,
14and community leaders from the Chicago area spoke to students
15at Lyons Township High School about career choices; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker's 50-year residency in La Grange
17was highlighted by community service; he was a member and took
18leadership roles in the Kiwanis Club, Park District, Little
19League, YMCA, and Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the
20Village of La Grange; he also served on the Lyons Township
21Mental Health Commission; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker was a member of the Hinsdale
2Unitarian Church; he was also a recipient of the Humanitarian
3Service Award from the local NAACP chapter; he worked
4energetically on issues such as civil rights, fair housing, and
5equal opportunity in employment for many years; his
6recreational interests included gardening, tent camping in all
7the lower 48 states, and foreign travel to 40 different
8countries; he loved the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls and any
9sport or activity in which his children or grandchildren were
10involved; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker is survived by his wife, Lorna;
12his daughter, Rona N. James, and her spouse, Larry W. James,
13M.D.; his sons, Devin and Brant Neuneker, along with Brant's
14spouse, Alisa; his grandchildren, Myles, Rachel, Zach, and Emma
15Neuneker; and his siblings, Rose Ritter, Ruth Smith, and Max
16Neuneker; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of Robert J. Neuneker; and
20be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Robert J. Neuneker as a symbol of
23our sincere sympathy.
