SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Bettin Stalling of Peoria, who
4passed away on June 12, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Stalling was born on November 9, 1937, in
6Washington, D.C.; his parents were the late Bettin and Ruth
7Stalling; he married Judith Stalling in the Iolani Palace in
8Honolulu, Hawaii in 1965; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Stalling graduated from Bethesda Chevy
10Chase High School in 1954; he subsequently earned his
11bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern University
12in 1959, his master's degree in psychology from Roosevelt
13University in 1965, and his Ph.D. in psychology from the
14University of Hawaii in Honolulu in 1969; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1969, Richard Stalling and his wife moved to
16Peoria after Richard accepted a position as a professor of
17psychology at Bradley University; he went on to teach at
18Bradley University for 38 years until his retirement in 2007;
19while at Bradley, he served as chair of the psychology
20department for eight years, represented the psychology
21department in the University Senate, and worked with Vice
22President Gary Anna and Councilman Roger Worman to create the

1entrance to Bradley University; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Richard Stalling was an active member of several
3organizations, including the Central Illinois Landmark
4Foundation, the Greenway Project, and the Moss Bradley
5Residential Association, where he led the process to preserve
6the ornamental lighting on Moss Avenue; he also reviewed
7restaurants for the West Bluff Word under the pseudonym Melvin
8Shirver; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Stalling is survived by his wife, Judith
10Stalling, and his children, Samantha Stalling (Amber Hawk
11Swanson) and Vanessa Stalling (Sean Graney); therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of Richard Bettin Stalling;
15and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Richard Stalling as an expression of
18our sympathy.
