SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Davis, Jr., who passed away on
4February 12, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. was born on April 13, 1947; he
6was the first of the 5 children born to the union of Helen Clay
7Davis and George Davis, Sr.; he married Jennifer (Anders) Davis
8in 1967; in 1983, he met Ardell Upton and made 'wooing' her his
9number 1 priority; after 20 years of sharing their lives,
10labors, and love, George and Ardell were united in holy
11matrimony on April 9, 2003; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. was raised with his brothers and
13sisters on the South Side of Chicago; he attended St. Laurence
14Elementary School and Chicago Vocational High School; and
 
15    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. often dreamed of being a Marine
16during his childhood; he eventually enlisted for active duty in
17the United States Marine Corps, where he did three tours in
18Vietnam; he was wounded during his third tour in Vietnam; he
19earned numerous awards, including a Purple Heart, for his
20service; and
 
21    WHEREAS, After receiving an honorable discharge from the

1Marine Corps, George Davis, Jr. returned home to Chicago and
2began working as an employee with the Maryville Academy; for
3the past 16 years, he served as a Security Officer in federal
4offices throughout Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. enjoyed fishing with his sons,
6grandsons, and his best friend, Larry; he also enjoyed reading;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. was preceded in death by his
9parents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, George Davis, Jr. is survived by his devoted wife,
11Ardell; his beloved sons: George III (Shelley), Jarrod L.
12(Tina), and Clevon J. (Robin); his siblings, Cheryl Maddox,
13Clevon Davis, Mark Davis (Kimberly), and Adrienne Davis; his
14stepdaughters, LaTisha Washington (Ronald) and Kimberly Upton;
15his 7 grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and
16friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of George Davis, Jr.; and
20be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
