SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Katharine W. Hoffman of Arlington
4Heights, who passed away on March 24, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on September 13, 1954, in Ocala,
6Florida, to Randolph St. George and Eleanor Hummel Walker; she
7grew up on Long Island, New York; and
 
8    WHEREAS, As a young girl, she learned to play the piano,
9was a disciplined student, and always wanted to become a
10teacher; she attended the University of Miami in Florida, where
11she soon met Dick, the love of her life; after graduating in
121976, the two married and lived in Florida, where Kathy taught
13middle school math; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Kathy and Dick moved to Arlington Heights in 1979,
15and raised two sons, Mike and Steve, with unfading love and
16support; Kathy inspired Steve to play the piano, challenged
17Mike on the golf course, and was Dick's "admiral" when boating
18on Lake Michigan; and
 
19    WHEREAS, She loved to teach; from teaching her stuffed
20animals to read and write as a little girl to earning "Teacher
21of the Year" at Safety Harbor Middle School, one of Kathy's

1driving passions in life was helping kids learn; she also loved
2music, enjoyed musical theater, her iPod playlists, and most of
3all, the feelings she found when playing her piano; and
 
4    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
5brother, Duffy Walker; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Katharine Hoffman is survived by her husband of 35
7years, Dick; and her two sons, Mike and Steve; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10her family and friends, the passing of Katharine Hoffman; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Katharine Hoffman as a symbol of our
14sincere sympathy.
