SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Carl Lee White, Sr., who passed away on
4February 15, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was born in Altheimer,
6Arkansas, on January 26, 1932; his parents were Murphy White
7and Mamie Harris; he married his loving wife, Blanchie, on
8January 16, 1951; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was raised in Arkansas and
10received his education from Logabayou School; as a young man,
11he accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Logabayou
12Missionary Baptist Church; as a child, he put aside his
13education and began to work in order to provide for his family;
14he picked cotton and worked in the oil fields pumping oil for
15cars; after many years, he eventually completed his education
16and graduated high school; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1952, Carl Lee White, Sr. moved his family to
18Texas, where they continued to reside for several years; in
191957, the White family relocated to Chicago, where they united
20with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church (now Joshua
21Missionary Baptist Church); he was subsequently baptized and
22ordained as a Deacon of Joshua MB Church; in April of 1964, he

1accepted the call to preach the gospel; in just a few months,
2Deacon White was elevated to the position of Pastor; in June of
31964, Pastor White and the Joshua MB Church moved to their new
4location at 3316 West Roosevelt Road; under Pastor White's
5leadership, the church's membership grew in numbers, requiring
6a move to the church's current location at 3255 West Carroll
7Avenue; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Pastor White, Joshua
9Missionary Baptist Church became well known for its outstanding
10choir and for the dynamically preached words that went forth;
11Pastor White's love for the choir and gospel music caused him
12to form a musical group called The Jubilaires; he furthered his
13education through the Chicago Baptist Institute and Moody Bible
14College; he also mentored many deacons, preachers, and sons in
15the ministry; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Pastor White was affiliated with the Sunlight
17District and the National Baptist Convention; he marched in
18Gage Park in Chicago with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King in
19furtherance of civil rights; in 1966, he was instrumental in
20the implementation of Black History Month Celebrations at
21Harrison High School in Chicago; he worked with various
22companies and developed several trades; he was also influential
23in providing assistance to the homeless, feeding the sick and
24senior citizens, and establishing youth and job training

1programs and counseling services; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was preceded in death by his
3parents; his brothers, Willie and Monroe; his sister, Dorothy
4White Newton; and his son, Kenneth White; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. is survived by his sons,
6Apostle Carl Lee White Jr. (Pamela), James White (Carol),
7Timothy White, and Lauren White; his daughters, Annette
8Northington (Pearlie), Pharistener Cash, Vicky White, and
9Charlotte White; his brother, Murphy White Jr.; his sister,
10Maydine Davis (Calvin); and his many grandchildren,
11great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
12friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Carl Lee White, Sr.; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Carl Lee White, Sr. as an expression
19of our sympathy.
