SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bishop DeArmond Southern Mathews, who
4passed away on February 28, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews graduated from Thornton Township
6High School in Harvey; and
 
7    WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews served his country with pride and
8distinction as a member of the United States Army for five
9years until his discharge in 1970; he loved his overseas tours
10he undertook in the Army because they fulfilled his desires for
11adventure; during weekend leave, he met his soulmate for life,
12Rhonda Mathews, whom he married on February 26, 1970; and
 
13    WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews accepted Christ at an early age
14and rededicated his life to accepting God's purpose and plan
15for his life in 1991; trusting in God to direct their paths,
16Bishop Mathews, his wife, and his son accepted the call and
17began to be led by the Holy Spirit; he served as Pastor and
18Overseer of Jehovah Jireh Ministries at the time of his
19passing; and
 
20    WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews was preceded in death by his
21parents, Elder Carson Bullard Mathews, Sr. and Evangelist

1Maxine Faith Mathews; and
 
2    WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews is survived by his loving wife of
341 years, Apostle Rhonda Mathews; his children, LaTanya Law,
4DeMeica, DeArmond (Courtney), and DeAndre; his grandsons,
5William, Christian, DeArmond III, Carson Ballard Mathews, and
6Daniel; his granddaughters, Christa, Elizabeth, Karrington,
7and Alexis; his sisters, Maxine Dabbs (Lonnie), Faith Johnson,
8Marion Smith, Leontine Walton, and Dawn Baker; and his brother,
9Thaddeus Mathews (Lourene); therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12his family and friends, the passing of Bishop DeArmond Southern
13Mathews; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of DeArmond Mathews as an expression of
16our sympathy.
