SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program was launched in
3March of 2011 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a year-long,
4nationwide effort to provide valuable resources and assistance
5for veterans and military spouses to aid them in their quests
6to find meaningful employment; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program committed itself to
8conducting 100 hiring fairs in 100 cities in 2011 to connect
9military members and spouses with employers; the Hiring our
10Heroes Program expects to have hundreds more in 2012; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program has partnered with
12the U.S. Department of Labor, the Illinois Comptroller's
13Office, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security to
14conduct the "HIRING OUR HEROES" Job Fair which will take place
15on March 28, 2012 at the Hilton Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair will assist
17veterans in securing employment in Illinois while
18simultaneously educating the potential employers and the
19public on the importance of hiring America's veterans upon
20their return home; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program recognizes

1Illinois' commitment towards reintegrating our military
2service members back into the workforce after their service to
3our country; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program aims to improve
5public-private sector coordination in local communities to
6address the issue of military and spouse unemployment; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Hiring Our Heroes Program recognizes that
8military members possess valuable leadership skills that may
9prove beneficial to private sector employers; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
12CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the date of March 28, 2012
13as "Hiring Our Heroes Day" in the State of Illinois, and
14encourage the people of the Land of Lincoln to join us in
15recognizing the valuable service of our military members and
16commend them for their optimism and perseverance in acquiring
17meaningful employment.
