SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
605 ILCS 5/6-130  from Ch. 121, par. 6-130

    Amends the Illinois Highway Code. Provides that no township road district may continue in existence if the roads forming a part of the district do not exceed a total of 100 miles (rather than 4 miles) in length. Provides that upon reduction of a township road system to a total mileage of 100 miles (rather than 4 miles) or less, the township road district shall be abolished by operation of law. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by changing
5Section 6-130 as follows:
 
6    (605 ILCS 5/6-130)  (from Ch. 121, par. 6-130)
7    Sec. 6-130. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act
8to the contrary, no township road district may continue in
9existence if the roads forming a part of the district do not
10exceed a total of 100 4 miles in length. For purposes of this
11Section, the roads forming a part of a township road district
12include those roads maintained by the district, regardless of
13whether or not those roads are owned by the township. On the
14first Tuesday in April of 1975, or of any subsequent year next
15succeeding the reduction of a township road system to a total
16mileage of 100 4 miles or less, each such township road
17district shall, by operation of law, be abolished. The roads
18comprising that district at that time shall thereafter be
19administered by the township board of trustees by contracting
20with the county, a municipality or a private contractor. The
21township board of trustees shall assume all taxing authority of
22a township road district abolished under this Section.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
