AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1427

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1427 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-696 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-696 new)
7    Sec. 3-696. Equestrian license plates.
8    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
10issue special registration plates designated as equestrian
11license plates. The special plates issued under this Section
12shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
13division or motor vehicles of the second division weighing not
14more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall
15expire according to the multi-year procedure established by
16Section 3-414.1 of this Code.

1    (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
2wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary
3may allow the plates to be issued as vanity plates or
4personalized plates under Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The
5Secretary shall prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
6Section 3-412 of this Code.
7    (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
8$15 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
9registration fee. The $15 fee shall be deposited into the
10Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used by
11the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing
12costs. For each registration renewal period, a $2 fee, in
13addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged
14and shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special
15License Plate Fund.".
