HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives believe that quality public education is the
4foundation of a democratic society; and
 
5    WHEREAS, An equitable, bias-free public education system
6and responsible funding for all levels of education is required
7in order to make a knowledgeable and productive society; and
 
8    WHEREAS, A strong federal commitment to education is
9especially necessary in difficult economic times; underfunding
10the education system has been and remains an unacceptable
11scenario and more creative solutions to education funding
12issues are needed to combat this troubling trend; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The reauthorization and improvement of the
14Elementary and Secondary Education Act, along with the creation
15of programs to close the achievement gap and increase access to
16higher education, a diminished or eliminated voucher system,
17and increased protection and enforcement of Title IX
18protections, would also help to create the conditions necessary
19to make the American education system the best in the world;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we urge Congress to pass legislation to increase funding for
3schools, reauthorize and improve the Elementary and Secondary
4Education Act, create programs aimed at closing the achievement
5gap and increasing access to higher education, prevent the
6expansion of vouchers, and protect and enforce Title IX
7protections to order to bolster the American education system
8and provide educators with the tools to give students the
9quality education they deserve; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11presented to the Speaker of the United States House of
12Representatives, the Majority Leader of the United States
13Senate, and each member of the Illinois congressional
14delegation.
