HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Reid Sutton for
4receiving the "2012 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" from
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After completing his residency at Michael Reese
7Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Sutton began his service to rural
8residents in Edgar County when he joined the staff at Paris
9Community Hospital/Family Medical Center in 1977; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Sutton's involvement in improving the health
11care of those in his community has been far reaching; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Due to the expertise and knowledge Dr. Sutton has
13developed over the years, he currently serves as the Medical
14Director for the Special Care Unit and the Cardiac
15Rehabilitation Unit and is the Chief of Medical Staff for
16PCH/FMC; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In order for local residents to have access to
18non-emergency care on the weekends, Dr. Sutton serves as
19collaborating physician to advanced practice nurses and a
20supervising physician to physician assistants so that weekend
21hours can be provided at a local care clinic; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Sutton is the only certified Medical Review
2Officer in his community and works closely with area employers
3to ensure the validity of their employee drug testing programs;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, The senior population in Edgar County is much
6higher than the State and national averages; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Sutton has a special place in his heart for
8the community's most vulnerable citizens by serving as medical
9director at several local assisted living centers and nursing
10homes and always making extra time to ensure the area's senior
11residents get the utmost in quality care; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Sutton also devotes many hours of service to
13the Austin Home, a local home for developmentally disabled
14adults; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Sutton provides health education to his
16community; he is a frequent speaker at community forums, as
17well as providing special expertise and moral support to local
18caregiver groups on topics such as dementia and Alzheimer's
19disease; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we commend Dr. Sutton for his selfless service to his community
3and the impact he has made on improving rural health over the
4past 35 years; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Dr. Sutton as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
