HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Anthony
4E. "Tony" Gordon of Grayslake, who passed away on August 6,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was born on May 29, 1952, in
7Waukegan; his parents were Edward and Rita Gordon; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was a graduate of Stevenson High
9School; he earned his associate's degree from the College of
10Lake County and his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois
11University in Carbondale; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon served his country with pride and
13distinction as a member of the United States Army; he was the
14recipient of the Army Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver
15Star, 3 Purple Hearts, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his
16service; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Following in the footsteps of his grandfather,
18Anthony Gordon began working full-time as a newspaper reporter
1930 years ago; after beginning his career in southern Illinois
20and working for 2 years in Evansville, Indiana, he returned
21home to Lake County, where he worked at the News-Sun for 10

1years and at the Daily Herald for 16 years; his wit and
2journalistic expertise earned him the confidence of his sources
3in the law enforcement community and helped him to become known
4as an authority in legal affairs reporting; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was the recipient of numerous
6accolades for his work, including a press coverage award from
7the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center in 1994 and the
8Liberty Bell Award for outstanding commitment and service from
9the Lake County Bar Association; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was an avid NASCAR racing fan; he
11also enjoyed planning vacation trips for himself and his wife;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was preceded in death by his
14parents, Edward and Rita Gordon, and his aunt, Mary Francis;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon is survived by his loving wife,
17Carolyn (nee Waller), and his loving siblings, Billy Gordon,
18Mary Ann Gordon, and Rita (Ed) Kipp; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
