HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4Reverend James W.L. Harvey Jr., who passed away on July 22,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Harvey Jr. was born on September 23, 1939,
7in Memphis, Tennessee, to James W.L. Harvey Sr. and Mary Ella
8Harvey-Washington; his formative years included public
9schooling in Memphis, and he was an alumnus of McKinley High
10School in Chicago; he was united in Holy Matrimony to Alice
11Polk-Hicks and they were blessed with a daughter, Nicole; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Harvey Jr. served as a minister for over 45
13years; for over 38 of those years he served as pastor of the El
14Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; he received his
15Associate Degree of Divinity from Moody Bible Institute; he
16received his Bachelor's Degree of Divinity and a Honorary
17Master's Degree from Lewis School of Theology; he served in the
18United States Army and retired from Heritage House/Dominick's
19Inc. after 31 years of service; and
 
20    WHEREAS, James Harvey Jr. is preceded in death by his wife,
21Alice; his mother, Mary Ella Washington; his fathers, Reverend
22James W.L. Harvey Sr. and Deacon John Washington; his uncle,

1Willie Meadows; his brothers, Willie Harvey Sr., Thomas Lee
2Harvey, and Nelson Mosley; and his sister, Cora Washington; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James Harvey Jr. is survived by his children,
4Nicole, Curtis (Janice), and Linda; his granddaughter,
5Candice; his sisters, Patricia, Geraldine, Bettye, Arlene
6(Cornelius), Carolyn (Ted), Ora, Lois, Doris, Alean, and Jean;
7his brothers, Oscar, Less, Joe, Charles, Eddie Lee, Clifford,
8Norris, and Walter; his cousins, Sharon, Earl, and Darsee; his
9sister-in-law, Margaret; his close friends, Richard Thomas,
10Kimball Kirk, Lee Jordan, James Slaughter, Rev. Gordon, Shirley
11Harvey, and Maggie McFarland; and a host of nieces, nephews,
12cousins, and godchildren; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the death of James Harvey Jr., and we extend our
16sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
20sympathy.
