HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Marvin
4Brown Bey of Chicago, who passed away on July 3, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on December 2, 1940, in Chicago to
6Estelle (Brown) Green; he was the youngest of four children and
7was raised by his adopted father, Charles Bey; he married
8Shirley, who preceded him in death, and they had one child,
9Marvin Jr.; he had a second son, Vinram with Willie C. Nettle
10Bey, who preceded him in death; he was instrumental in the
11rasing of Willie's three children, Yanta, Dukeith, and Breem;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, He attended Washburne Trade School where he was a
14member of the singing group, the Premiers; he enlisted into the
15U.S. Army at age 17; he attended basic training at Fort Leonard
16Wood, Missouri, and served in Germany as a paratrooper with an
17engineering unit; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was active in the Civil Rights movement and was
19a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the
20Council of Racial Equality, and the Chicago Urban League; he
21worked for Maryville Academy as their first African American
22counselor, and Job Corp, as a cab and commercial driver and a

1race track teller; and
 
2    WHEREAS, He continued his education by obtaining an
3Associate of Arts degree from Central YMCA Community College
4and he also took classes at the University of Chicago Lutheran
5School of Theology; he enjoyed the challenge and fellowship
6that Freemasonry offered and became a Mason in 1984 and was the
7last Past Master of St. Joel Lodge #34; he became a member of
8The Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the
9World Great Lakes Chapter #37 in 2007; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The passing of Marvin Brown Bey has been deeply
11felt by many, especially his son, Vinram S. Wade Bey; his
12grandchildren, Kamaria, Svonne, and Marquis; his great
13granddaughter, Jayda; his sister, Katie Estes and her children,
14Wilson, Jimmy, Emma, Joe, and, John; his niece, Dionne
15Campbell; and his lifelong friends, Joseph Cole and Leola
16Person; he was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle; his
17adopted father, Charles; his son, Marvin Jr.; his brothers,
18Jack Brown and James Campbell; and his nephews, Jack and
19Sherome; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we mourn the passing of Marvin Brown Bey, and we extend our
23sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
4sympathy.
