HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rita G.
4Fredenhagen Harvard of Naperville, who passed away on June 15,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was born on June 28,
71929, in Aurora, and was a lifelong resident of Naperville; she
8was the daughter of the late Walter and Grace Fredenhagen; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard attended Monmouth
10College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology;
11while at Monmouth College, she was inducted into the Mortar
12Board Honor Society; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard enjoyed being involved
14in her community; she taught Sunday School at Grace United
15Methodist church for 12 years and served 6 years as the Sunday
16School Superintendent; she taught for 2 years in Dixon; she was
17a member of a 3-member steering committee that planned and
18designed the Grace United Methodist Church Building; she served
19as the secretary/treasurer for the Prince Castles/Cock Robin
20Companies from 1972 to 1985 and at the Naperville Creamery
21Company from 1985 to 2000; she served as a volunteer at Edward
22Hospital as a member of the Institutional Review Board for 10

1years; she also served as a member of the Fire and Police Board
2of Commissioners for 8 years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the first woman
4president of the Rotary Club of Naperville and was selected as
5Rotarian of the Year; she served as grand marshal of the
6Naperville Labor Day Parade; she was also selected to be
7included in the Marquis Who's Who of American Women; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the recipient of
9numerous awards, including the Gael Swing Award of Meritorious
10Service from North Central College for involvement as a trustee
11for 28 years, the Heritage Society Hall of Honor designation,
12the Naperville chapter of the A.A.U.W. "Woman of the Year"
13award, and the DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the
14Year; she was also awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards
15from the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was preceded in death by
17her parents; her brother, James Fredenhagen; her sister, Jeanne
18Fredenhagen Moen; and her stepson, Kent Harvard; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard is survived by her loving
20husband of 31 years, John Harvard; her daughters, Susan (Keith)
21Kroskoz and Jodie (Dave) Anderson; her son, Tom (Laura)
22Castagnoli; her stepdaughters, Kelly (Dean) Pelland and Kerry

1(Preston) Irwin; her 8 grandchildren; her great-grandson; her 6
2step-grandchildren; her 3 step-great-granddaughters; and her
3brother, Ted Fredenhagen; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
7Rita G. Fredenhagen Harvard; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Rita Fredenhagen Harvard as an
10expression of our sympathy.
