HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, 2012 marks the 50th Anniversary of the development
3of Contemporary Art Glass in the United States, and to
4celebrate the milestone and recognize the many talented
5artists, including many in Illinois, more than 500 glass
6demonstrations, lectures, and exhibitions will take place in
7museums, galleries, art centers, universities, art
8organizations, festivals, and other venues across the United
9States; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Midwest Contemporary Glass Art Group (MCGAG)
11is an Illinois non-profit organization with over 200 members
12primarily in Illinois whose mission is to educate the public
13concerning the development and appreciation of Contemporary
14Glass Art in the Midwest; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass (AACG) is a
16national non-profit organization with members primarily from
17the United States, whose mission is to educate the public and
18to provide grants to further the development and appreciation
19of art made from glass (Contemporary Glass Art); and
 
20    WHEREAS, AACG and MCGAG inform and educate the public,
21including collectors, critics, and art curators and provide
22financial support with grants to University Glass Programs,

1Museums, Art Center Glass Exhibitions, and other public glass
2programs for Contemporary Glass Art; and
 
3    WHEREAS, There are glass art education programs at Illinois
4State University and Southern Illinois University whose
5students are participating in the recognition of the 50th
6Anniversary; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Krannert Art
8Museum in Urbana-Champaign, the Rockford Art Museum, and other
9art venues in Illinois are having exhibitions in 2012 in
10recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the development of
11Contemporary Glass Art in the United States; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The 50th Anniversary of the development of
13Contemporary Glass Art in the United States is also being
14specifically celebrated and recognized on November 3rd, 2012 by
15over 300 glass collectors, glass artists, curators, and art
16gallery owners at an event sponsored by AACG on the Spirit of
17Chicago in connection with the Sculpture Objects & Functional
18Art International Art Show (SOFA), one of the World's Foremost
19Fairs of Art and Design Events at the Navy Pier in Chicago from
20November 1st through the 4th 2012; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we recognize the 50th Anniversary of the development of
2Contemporary Glass Art in the United States; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we applaud and honor the accomplishments of
4the MCGAG and AACG as they celebrate the 50th Anniversary in
5Illinois and the United States and proclaim the year of 2012 as
6Contemporary Glass Art Awareness Year in Illinois; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we encourage Illinois educators to provide
9educational programs for their students about Contemporary
10Glass Art and to arrange for students to attend exhibitions and
11otherwise participate in the various events and exhibitions
12recognizing the 50th Anniversary of Contemporary Glass Art in
13the State of Illinois; we also encourage all Illinois citizens
14to attend events and exhibitions in Illinois recognizing the
1550th Anniversary of Contemporary Glass Art; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17delivered to the Governor, as well as members of the Art
18Alliance of Contemporary Glass and Midwest Contemporary Glass
19Art Group, at the special celebration of the 50th Anniversary
20of Contemporary Glass Art in the United States on the Spirit of
21Chicago on November 3, 2012 during the SOFA Event at Navy Pier
22in Chicago, as a symbol of our respect and esteem for those
23organizations and their memberships.
