HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Katrina Marie
4Clark Thomas on the occasion of her retirement as principal of
5Lilly-Freeman Elementary School; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas was born in St. Louis, Missouri and
7raised in East St. Louis; she is the daughter of the late
8Willie B. Clark and Allan "PJ" McCarty; she has one sister,
9Deborah Cobb, and one brother, the late Kenneth "Ricky"
10Williams; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas attended John Robinson School,
12Monroe School, and Rock Jr. High School before graduating with
13the January 1967 class of E. St. Louis Senior High School;
14after high school, she earned her bachelor's degree in
15education from Southwest Missouri College in Springfield,
16Missouri in 1971; she subsequently earned her master's degree
17in educational administration from the University of Illinois;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas began her teaching career at
20Jefferson Elementary School (now Nelson Mandela Elementary
21School) in February of 1971; in 1992, she was offered the
22opportunity to be an exchange professor at Southern Illinois

1University in Edwardsville in the field of education; in 1993,
2she resumed her teaching career at Mandela, where she remained
3until she was assigned to Lilly-Freeman Elementary School as an
4elementary principal in the summer of 1995; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas has been the recipient of
6outstanding recognition and numerous honors; she is a Life
7Member in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a Life Member
8in the East St. Louis Branch of the NAACP, a board member of
9the Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, and treasurer of
10the East St. Louis Principals' Association; she is also a
11member of Macedonia Baptist Church; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas and her loving husband, Argie H.
13Thomas, have been married for 35 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas serves as a model of hard work,
15integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
16Illinois; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate Katrina Marie Clark Thomas on the occasion of
20her retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement
21years; and be it further
