HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Millions of Cambodians were killed from 1975 to
31979 as part of a systematic genocide by the Khmer Rouge; many
4of these murders were performed at sites now known as the
5Killing Fields; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In order to provide hope and renewal to the
7survivors and to the Cambodian community at large, the
8Cambodian-American community remembers and pays tribute to
9those lost in the Killing Fields; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mr. Kompha Seth, President and Co-Founder of the
11Cambodian Association of Illinois, and Dary Mien, Executive
12Director of the Cambodian Association of Illinois, have worked
13tirelessly to ensure that we remember those who were lost and
14those who will forever bear the scars from this atrocity, and
15to educate Illinoisans on the rich culture and history of the
16Cambodian-American community; and
 
17    WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper for the members of this
18body to join with the Cambodian-American community in
19remembering those who were lost to the Khmer Rouge regime;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we designate the first Saturday in April as the Cambodian Day
3of Remembrance in the State of Illinois and urge the people of
4this State to join with the Cambodian-American community in
5remembering those lost and honoring the survivors.
