HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is pleased
3to congratulate the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy's
4students, staff, faculty, and alumni on their outstanding
5efforts to prepare the next generation of science, technology,
6engineering and mathematics educators and students; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy's
8collaborative contributions on behalf of the State of Illinois
9to provide rigorous and distinctive science, technology,
10engineering and mathematics experiences to underserved and
11under-resourced students through the PROMISE programs,
12breaking down geographical and socio-economic barriers are
13deserving of recognition as well; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Academy's signature outreach program FUSION,
15supporting state educators, has been recognized twice by the
16Bayer Corporation as one of a select number of programs
17nationwide to earn the K-12 Best Practice Programs honor; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Increased access for students statewide to
19science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses is
20delivered both online and face-to-face in residential, summer
21and weekend settings by the Academy through innovative programs
22like Total Applied Learning for Entrepreneurs, CoolHub, and the

1United Nations of Youth, develop the talented workforce our
2State and nation need to compete in the world; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Academy partners with The Golden Apple
4Scholars of Illinois to recruit and prepare a diverse group of
5bright and talented high school graduates and college
6sophomores who hold the promise for successful careers as
7excellent teachers in high-need schools; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Academy is successful in linking schools with
9industry to solve real-world problems through collaborations
10with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois
11State Board of Education, the Department of Commerce and
12Economic Opportunity in conjunction with the Illinois
13Innovation and Talent Project; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is
15creating sustainable change throughout all of Illinois in its
16schools, libraries, community-based organizations, and allies
17such as After School Matters Chicago, cultivating lifelong
18learning skills and fostering the ability of our students to go
19beyond knowledge to mastery; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we congratulate Dr. Leon Lederman, the Academy's current and

1past Presidents, Dr. Glenn W. "Max" McGee and Dr. Stephanie
2Pace Marshall, respectively, and all trustees, staff, faculty,
3students, alumni, parents, and partners of the Illinois
4Mathematics and Science Academy for their leadership in
5reaching out with excellence to foster innovation and open new
6frontiers in science, technology, engineering, and
7mathematics; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we wish the Academy well in seeking to
9achieve all of its objectives from encouraging all learners to
10achieve their personal aspirations and explore their potential
11to contribute to the common good to encouraging educators to
12use teaching and learning strategies grounded in imagination
13and inquiry; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Dr. Glenn "Max" McGee, and the Illinois
16Mathematics and Science Academy as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
