HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor United States Army Master
4Sergeant Shawn Gibson for her military service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, MSG Shawn Gibson is a native of North Chicago; she
6graduated from North Chicago Community High School in North
7Chicago in 1981; she subsequently earned her associates of
8science degree from Kaplan University, with an emphasis in
9human services and child and family welfare; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1982, MSG Shawn Gibson moved to Waukegan; she
11enlisted in the United States Army on January 25, 1983; after
12graduating from basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and
13Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia, she was
14designated an Automated Logistics Specialist; and
 
15    WHEREAS, During her military career, MSG Shawn Gibson was
16placed on numerous assignments in many locations throughout the
17world, including Fort Stewart, Georgia, the Conn Barracks in
18Schweinfurt, Germany, Camp Hialeah in Pusan, Korea, Fort Lee,
19Virginia, Panzer Kaserne in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Fort
20Bragg, North Carolina, and Bamberg, Germany; she also spent 15
21months in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from July
22of 2008 to October of 2009; and

1    WHEREAS, In January of 2011, MSG Shawn Gibson assumed
2duties as the Materiel Support Branch Non-Commissioned Officer
3in Charge of the Distribution Management Center of the US Army
4Sustainment Command at Rock Island Arsenal; and
 
5    WHEREAS, MSG Shawn Gibson has been the recipient of
6numerous awards and decorations for her service, including the
7Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the
8Army Achievement Medal, 9 Army Good Conduct Medals, 2 National
9Defense Service Medals, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the
10Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service
11Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army NCO
12Professional Development Ribbon w/ numeral 3, the Army Service
13Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon w/ numeral 6, the Drill
14Sergeant Instructor Badge, and the Distinguished Order of Saint
15Martin; she also received numerous coins and certificates for
16singing the National Anthem and narrating for high visibility
17ceremonies; and
 
18    WHEREAS, MSG Shawn Gibson was the Army Sustainment
19Command's Nominee for the Congressional Caucus for Women's
20Issues 2011; she was the recipient of resolutions from the
21Mayors of Waukegan and North Chicago for being an outstanding
22and heroic member of their communities; she was designated the
232005 First Installation Military Idol at Fort Lee, Virginia;

1she was inducted as an Alumnus of the Office of the
2Quartermaster General; she also served as an Army Family Action
3Committee Delegate 2010 and 2011 at the Rock Island Arsenal and
4is a Life Member of the prestigious United States Army Corps of
5Quartermasters; and
 
6    WHEREAS, MSG Shawn Gibson is retiring from the United
7States Army after 29 years of honorable military service; she
8is currently employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as a
9contractor with Veteran Solutions Incorporated; she is the
10mother of 2 children, Devante' and Jaylen; and
 
11    WHEREAS, MSG Shawn Gibson serves as a model of hard work,
12integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
13Illinois; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we honor United States Army Master Sergeant Shawn Gibson for
17her military service and wish her continued success and
18happiness in the future; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to MSG Shawn Gibson as a symbol of our esteem and
21respect.
