HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of ABLE
4Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, for its many
5achievements as an Employee Business Partner in
6Alcatel-Lucent; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Association of Black Laboratories Employees,
8Inc., (ABLE) was formed in 1970 to address placement and
9promotional concerns of black Bell Laboratories employees; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In January of 1985, ABLE, the Committee of AT&T
11Employees, and the Employee Focus Group (EFG) of AT&T
12Communications merged to form the Alliance of Black
13Telecommunications Employees, Inc.; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In September of 2000, ABLE divested again into 2
15entities, the Alliance of Black Lucent Employees, Inc., (ABLE)
16and the Alliance of Black Leaders of Avaya (ABL), to align with
17Lucent's spin-off of Avaya; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In December of 2006, ABLE incorporated Leaders of
19African Descent as part of its name to align with the merger of
20Alcatel and Lucent Technologies to form Alcatel-Lucent; and

1    WHEREAS, ABLE's goal is to develop a climate that supports
2all employees in realizing their full potential, thereby making
3Alcatel-Lucent a more successful enterprise and a more
4wholesome place to work; and
 
5    WHEREAS, ABLE is served by a nationally-elected Board of
6Directors and has 3 operating regions: Eastern, Southern, and
7Central/Western; and
 
8    WHEREAS, ABLE's national and local chapter programming
9occurs in support of 6 strategic thrusts: professional
10development, community action, networking, economic
11development, affirmative action advocacy, and spiritual
12enrichment; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Over the years, a significant improvement in the
14quality of work life allowed ABLE Central-Western Region to
15extend its focus to include self-help and community
16involvement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville
18Chapter, serves as a model of diversity programming, community
19outreach, and professional development for the people of the
20State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we congratulate the members of the ABLE Central-Western Region,
3Naperville Chapter, for its many accomplishments as an Employee
4Business Partner in Alcatel-Lucent and thank the organization
5for serving as an advocate in the African-American community
6and as a source of quality diversity programming, especially
7during Black History Month; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville
10Chapter, as a symbol of our high regard and respect.
