HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Staff
4Sergeant Ari Richard Cullers of Waterford, Connecticut, who
5passed away on October 30, 2011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers was born in New London,
7Connecticut; he joined the Army soon after graduating from
8Waterford High School in 2001; and
 
9    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers was a member of the Army's
10Headquarters Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, Third
11Brigade Combat Team of the Army's 10th Mountain Division, based
12out of Fort Drum, New York; and
 
13    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers earned numerous awards for his
14meritorious service, including the Bronze Star, the Purple
15Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal,
16the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service
17Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star,
18the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense
19Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional
20Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas
21Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the
22Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver W Bar, the Combat and

1Special Skill Badge, the Basic Marksmanship Qualification
2Badge, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army), and the
3Overseas Service Bar; and
 
4    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers was preceded in death by his
5grandfather, Benjamin David Cullers Sr.; his grandmother,
6Madeline Epperson; and his cousin, Jeremy Ferrell; and
 
7    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers is survived by his father,
8Benjamin David Cullers Jr., and his wife, Stachia Cullers; his
9mother, Robin E. Cornele; his brother, Jacob Cullers; his
10grandmother, Kay Cullers; his uncles and aunts, Gene and Ruth
11Teal, Bruce and Jana Cullers, Janice Reyes, Daniel Coleman,
12Kimball Poletti, Shawn Cornele, Jeffery Epperson, Carol
13Coleman, Pamela Coleman, Kathy Coleman, and Patricia Burt; and
14his many cousins and their families; and
 
15    WHEREAS, SSG Ari Cullers' patriotism and courage will be
16remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
17and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
21Staff Sergeant Ari Richard Cullers; and be it further
