HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Sterling All
4Stars 11 and 12 year old girls softball team on winning the
52011 Little League World Series; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The All Stars were down 3 to nothing against
7Midway, the tough team from Waco, Texas, when the players found
8fire in their bats, scoring 7 runs in the third inning; Hannah
9Escamilla opened the inning with a single and closed the
10scoring with a 2 run double; Nadia Trujillo, Emily Berogan,
11Kylie Burkett, and Erin Stroup each drove in a run with base
12hits, enough to keep the lead and end the game with a score of
137-5; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lexy Staples shut down the 11-time championship
15Waco team, allowing 7 hits and striking out 2 in 5 1/3 innings,
16finishing the World Series with a 4-0 record; Cheyenne
17Harrington got the final 2 outs of the game, earning her first
18save; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sterling outscored its opponents 58-9 in 6 World
20Series games, including a 2-0 victory over Waco in the opening
21game; and

1    WHEREAS, This is only the second time that an Illinois team
2has won the national title; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The coaches for the Sterling All Stars are Eric
4Staples, Ed Long, and Pete Trujillo; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The members of the team are: Cheyenne Harrington,
6Emily Berogan, Kylie Burkett, Nadia Trujillo, Hannah
7Escamilla, Abrianna Hale, Alexis Staples, and Mya Pearson;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate the Sterling All Stars on their outstanding
12season and on winning the title of World Series Champions; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the players and coaches of the Sterling All Stars
16as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
