HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the crew of the
4Polish LOT Airlines flight that successfully landed a Boeing
5767 without the use of landing gear and without any casualties
6aboard the flight; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During a flight from Newark, New Jersey to Warsaw,
8Poland, a Polish LOT Airlines flight, carrying 231 passengers,
9encountered a problem with the plane's hydraulic system that
10kept the landing gear from deploying; without being able to use
11any of the plane's 3 wheels, the plane would have to land on
12its belly, a dangerous situation that makes it impossible to
13change the plane's direction after it sets down on the tarmac
14and difficult to land safely; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Despite not having any operable wheels on the
16aircraft, Tadeusz Wrona, the captain of the LOT aircraft, and
17his crew decided to continue the flight to Warsaw's Frederic
18Chopin airport and attempt to land, in order to decrease the
19risk of fire by using up the plane's heavy fuel load; once they
20arrived in Warsaw, the crew was able to land the aircraft on
21its belly so smoothly that many on board thought it had landed
22on its wheels; the plane suffered no major structural damage
23and there were no casualties; and

1    WHEREAS, Such a miraculous landing would not be possible
2without the crew's incredible training, professionalism, and
3preparedness; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Tadeusz Wrona and the other crew members of the
7Polish LOT Airlines flight for their wonderful courage and
8skill under pressure and wish them success in their future
9endeavors; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the crew of the Polish LOT Airlines flight as a
12symbol of our esteem and respect.
