HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Children who have had a loved one die, especially
3a close family member or friend, can carry that loss with them
4forever, causing confusion and fearfulness as they struggle to
5understand why their loved one was taken away; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Grieving children often struggle to get over the
7loss of a loved one, and, despite appearances, have intense
8inner turmoil which often goes unrecognized; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Counseling provided by hospices, churches,
10organizations, and grief counseling centers offers emotional
11support for children struggling with grief, allowing them to
12find guidance and understanding during an extremely difficult
13time; and
 
14    WHEREAS, On November 17, 2011, citizens and communities
15throughout Illinois are encouraged to wear blue in an effort to
16raise awareness and show their support for grieving children
17and the grief centers that seek to serve those young people
18confounded by the reality of death; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we recognize November 17, 2011, as "Children's Grief Awareness

1Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That all support agencies in the State of
3Illinois that provide grief counseling support services to
4children be recognized for their efforts to support children,
5teens, families, and communities in coping with grief and the
6death of a loved one.
