HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edmund
4Miller Morrissey, who passed away on September 12, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was born on September 18, 1926,
6in Alton; his parents were Edmund Henry and Emma Miller
7Morrissey; he married the former Therese (Trixie) Louise
8Woodbury on November 27, 1948; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey graduated from Marquette High
10School in 1944; shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United
11States Merchant Marine to help serve his country during World
12War II; he was decorated with the Victory Medal for his
13meritorious service; after the war, he attended St. Louis
14University before subsequently graduating from Washington
15University's School of Engineering; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was the founder and owner of the
17Morrissey Construction Company; his firm was instrumental in
18shaping the region as it grew from its humble beginnings in the
19basement of his home to one of the region's leading commercial
20and residential developers; the company completed more than
2114,000 affordable units, including housing developments,
22retail outlets, churches, schools, institutional facilities

1for the developmentally disabled, and law enforcement
2headquarters; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey devoted countless hours to
4volunteer his time and talent on many civic boards for the
5betterment of the overall community; he cherished and was
6always there for St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he
7worshipped and served for more than 60 years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey had a passion for travel and
9learning other cultures, most notably the ancient cultures of
10Central America, where he was recognized as an authority in the
11field of pre-Columbian antiquities; he also enjoyed hunting,
12fishing, woodworking, spending time with his family and
13friends, and spreading good will wherever he went; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was preceded in death by his
15parents and his sister-in-law, Mary Josephine Morrissey; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey is survived by his beloved wife,
17Trixie; his children, Ed, Jr. (Patty), Mike (Linda), Barbara
18McGrew (Michael), Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe, John, Teri Holland
19(Dean), Dan (Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy Brandt (Kurt); his
20grandchildren, Mary Morrissey, Jeanne Kirimca, Michael C.
21Morrissey Jr., Vanessa Bassett, Ryan Morrissey, Tom
22Edmoundson, Micah Spicer, Edmund Q. Morrissey, McKenna

11nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
15Edmund Miller Morrissey; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Edmund Morrissey as an expression of
18our sympathy.
