HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, A significant milestone is being reached in 2011
3as "Illinois Lawmakers", the State's longest-running public
4affairs television program, enters its second quarter century;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, "Illinois Lawmakers" developed a widely respected
7reputation for its even-handed approach to interviews, it's
8reportage of complex State issues, and live coverage of
9gubernatorial budget and State of the State addresses; and
 
10    WHEREAS, "Illinois Lawmakers" became a unique venture for
11the State's 11 public television stations which forged the
12programming idea shortly after acquiring a mobile satellite
13truck and bringing it to Springfield; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Top billing for organizing the venture is properly
15given to veteran Executive Producer Marty McLaughlin of
16WTTW-TV, who used his years of media experience and political
17savvy to launch "Illinois Lawmakers"; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Credit must be given to award-winning
19broadcasters Bruce DuMont and Jak Tichenor, who served as the
20program's chief anchors; and

1    WHEREAS, Bruce DuMont has gone on to create the Museum of
2Broadcasting; Jak Tichenor was honored in 2006, when he was
3named a recipient of the prestigious Sturgis Award at
4SIU-Carbondale; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sharing the distinction of serving viewers for the
6full run of the show is Bill Baker of WTVP-TV Peoria, who
7helped provide the show with its first-class production crew;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Their work was guided by John Eisenhour of WEIU-TV
10Charleston; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Many veteran journalists, including Mary Frances
12Fagan, Peggy Boyer-Long, Rich Miller, Bernie Schoenberg, Sean
13Crawford, and Bill Wheelhouse, all contributed quality
14reporting to "Illinois Lawmakers"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, These distinctive broadcasts were recognized by
16the Association of America's Public Television Stations for
17innovative public affair programming, a Keystone Program Award
18from the Central Educational Network, and four regional Emmy
19nominations; and
 
20    WHEREAS, This joint effort produced more than 300
21broadcasts, which allowed legislators to go beyond sound bites

1to explain their legislation and express their opinions and
2views, thereby sharing with voters and taxpayers solid
3information on how government works; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we thank the entire "Illinois Lawmakers" team and congratulate
7them for 25 years of broadcasting excellence; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the "Illinois Lawmakers" team as a symbol of our
10respect and esteem.
