HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Timothy D.
4McCollum on his retirement as a teacher at Charleston Middle
5School in Charleston; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago and educated in the Chicago
7Public Schools; he graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High
8School with the Class of 1969; he graduated from Eastern
9Illinois University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree
10and a Master of Science degree in Zoology in 1977; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He is retiring as a Science Teacher at Charleston
12Middle School in Charleston after 38 years of service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He has received many awards while in education,
14including: the National Education Association Horace Mann
15Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, 2009; the Golden
16Apple Central Illinois Academy Inaugural Class, 2008; the Sigma
17Xi, Eastern Illinois University Chapter Outstanding Science
18Teacher, 2008; the Jefferson Award for Community & Public
19Service, 2006; the ExxonMobil Outstanding Teaching Award,
202006; and the Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science
21Teaching, 2003; and

1    WHEREAS, He has served on many committees and boards,
2including: the National Education Association Horace Mann
3Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence - National Selection
4Committee, 2011; the Golden Apple Academy Committee, 2011; the
5Elementary and Middle Grade Advisory Group, Illinois State
6Board of Education, 2011; the Teacher Advisory Council, Advance
7Illinois, 2009 to the present; the Co-Investigator of Project
8Expedition Earth and Beyond, NASA Johnson Space Center, 2008 to
9the present; the Lead Teacher of the Polar Palooza National
10Museum Tour, Passport to Knowledge, Geoffrey Haines-Stiles
11Productions, 2007-2009; the P-12 Advisory Committee, College
12of Education and Professional Studies, Eastern Illinois
13University, 2007 to the present; the National Science Board
14Commission on 21st Century Education in Science, Technology,
15Engineering, and Mathematics, 2006 to 2007 (he was the only
16K-12 teacher appointed to this national commission); and the
17Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science Teaching -
18National Selection Committee, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He is married to Rita McCollum; they have one
20daughter, Monica Tapp and one son, Kyle McCollum; therefore, be
21it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24we congratulate Tim McCollum on his retirement and wish him the
