HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Ann Kalis of
4Elmhurst on the occasion of her retirement after many years of
5service as principal of Lincoln School in Elmhurst; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis earned her bachelor's degree in Art
7Education from Illinois State University in 1973; she
8subsequently earned her master's degree in education from
9Northern Illinois University in 1978 and has done doctoral work
10in educational leadership at the University of Illinois at
11Urbana-Champaign; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has served as principal of Lincoln
13School in Elmhurst since 1996; during her tenure at Lincoln
14School, she developed a sterling reputation as a capable and
15effective leader; she was also instrumental in the creation of
16numerous programs at the school, including school-based
17initiatives in reading and phonemic awareness and in-district
18Principal Leadership sessions in order to foster opportunities
19for principals to share, communicate, and learn from each
20other; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Prior to her stint at Lincoln School, Mary Ann
22Kalis served as a coordinator for the University of Illinois

1Medical School in Chicago from 1979 to 1983; she subsequently
2served as Assistant Principal for Curriculum at the Immaculate
3Conception High School in Elmhurst from 1990 to 1994 and as an
4assistant principal and interim principal at both Jackson
5School and Emerson School in Elmhurst from 1995 to 1996; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has been a member of the
7Professional Staff Development and Principal Evaluation
8committees of the DuPage Regional Office of Education and the
9Boards of the Elmhurst Foundation for Excellence and the DuPage
10Region of the Illinois Principals' Association; she also served
11as director of the DuPage Region of the Illinois Principals'
12Association; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has served as a model of hard work,
14integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
15Illinois; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate Mary Ann Kalis on the occasion of her
19retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement
20years; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Mary Ann Kalis as a symbol of our esteem and
