HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John King as he
4retires from his position as Bond County Circuit Clerk; and
 
5    WHEREAS, After 43 years of serving the public as a police
6officer and the circuit clerk of Bond County, John King retired
7on January 31, 2011; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He was first elected to the post in 1996, and was
9re-elected in 2000, 2004, and 2008 to four-year terms; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was hired as a City of Greenville police
11officer in 1968; he was appointed police chief in 1980 and
12retired from that position just before being elected as circuit
13clerk; he arrived in Greenville in 1964, attending Greenville
14College; he thought that being a police officer would be a good
15life experience, and applied at the Greenville police
16department and was hired as a patrolman; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He also served as chairman for five years in Zone
183 for the Illinois Circuit Clerk's Association, spending one
19year as State president in 2007, and then another year as
20immediate past president; and

1    WHEREAS, The circuit clerk is the keeper of the court
2records, filing and overseeing all criminal cases, orders of
3protection, traffic tickets, juvenile matters, lawsuits, small
4claims cases, passports, and divorces; in 1997, the first full
5year John King was circuit clerk, a total of 1,411 traffic
6tickets were written by police in the county; in 2009, the
7number was over 8,000 and last year there were 7,752 tickets
8issued; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After retirement, he will remain very active in
10the Okaw Valley Radio Club, where he is currently the
11president; he also wants to do some traveling, become more
12involved in photography, and possibly do a little work on the
13side, to have funds for his amateur radio activities;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate John King on his retirement and wish him well
18in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to John King as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
