HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Newark High School
4Boys Basketball team on the occasion of becoming the 2011
5Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Champions; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Newark Norsemen made their first ever
7appearance in the Illinois High School Association State
8tournament this year after reaching the Super-Sectionals in
9each of the last two years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Norsemen were outstanding all year earning a
1126-1 regular season record and a perfect 8-0 record in the
12Little Ten Conference Tournament, where the team defeated its
13opponents by an average of 32 points; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Newark team outscored its seven postseason
15opponents by an average of 25 points, including an impressive
1622-point victory in the Championship game at Carver Arena in
17Peoria, where it set the Class 1A Title Game team records for
18field goal percentage (54.3%), assists (15), steals (15), and
19blocks (5); and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Norsemen are led by Head Coach Rick Tollefson,
21who, in five years with the team, has built a remarkable 115-35

1record and led the team to the first State title in Newark High
2School history; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The members of the varsity Newark Boys Basketball
4Team are: seniors, Jeremy Anderson, Kyle Anderson, John Avery,
5Cameron Berg, Paul Hines, Gregory Hughes, and Sune Klarskov;
6juniors, David Hillard, Andrew Lehman, Kenny Kratzer, Jacob
7Ramey, and Taylor Wright; and sophomore, Brett Anderson;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate the Newark High School Boys Basketball team on
12their victory and pursuit of excellence and wish them continued
13success in the future; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the members and coaches of the Newark High School
16Boys Basketball team as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
