HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Miriam B.
4Fry of Naperville, who passed away on January 17, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born March 22, 1917 in Wheeling; she was a
61935 graduate of Arlington Heights High School and a 1939
7graduate of North Central College in Naperville, where she
8received a Bachelor's degree in English; after college, Miriam
9moved to Detroit, Michigan, where her husband, Arthur, worked
10for General Motors; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After her husband passed away in 1945, the family
12turned to Naperville; she started working at the Nichols
13Library in the late 40's; she proudly served as Library
14Director at Nichols Library from 1950-1984, a tenure which saw
15tremendous growth for the library; she was later honored with
16the establishment of The Miriam B. Fry Reading Room, which is
17located in the new library; and
 
18    WHEREAS, She was a member of the Naperville Women's Club,
19the American Association of University Women (AAUW), PEO (the
20Philanthropic Educational Organization), and a longtime active
21member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville; and

1    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur
2S. Fry, whom she married June 1, 1940 at Grace Evangelical
3Church in Naperville; and her parents, Ira and Ada Bubert; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Miriam Fry is survived by her sons, Gary (Mary
5Beth) Fry and Dr. James (Janet) Fry; her grandchildren, Deborah
6(Gregory) Marten, Douglas (Kathryn) Fry, Catherine (Justin)
7Brinkman, Carolyn (Stuart) Naylor, Scott (Kim) Fry, and Steven
8Fry; her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, and Max Marten,
9Lucy, Stella, and Charlie Fry, Joshua, Kyle, and Ted Brinkman,
10Evan Fry, and Ally Fry; her brother, Rollin (Jeanne) Bubert;
11and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn, along with her family, friends, and people of the
15community, the passing of Miriam Fry; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Miriam Fry as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
