HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, According to the World Health Organization, 1.1
3billion people do not have access to safe water supplies, 2.6
4billion people do not have access to improved sanitation, and
53.1 million children die each year from water-related diseases;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, All people and all countries are impacted by
8access to water and sanitation; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Plumbing is vital to global health and improved
10quality of life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Plumbers play an important role in ensuring the
12safety of the citizens of Illinois and all people; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Water conservation is critical in helping to
14ensure access to water in the future; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The United Nations has set a goal to reduce by
16half the number of people without access to safe drinking water
17and basic sanitation by 2015; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Increased education and awareness of water and
19sanitation issues are needed; and

1    WHEREAS, The World Plumbing Council is an organization
2comprised of plumbing industry professionals around the globe;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, The World Plumbing Council has designated March
511, 2011 as World Plumbing Day to help the general public
6better understand the vital role the plumbing industry plays in
7protecting public health and safety, the extent to which it
8helps limit mankind's environmental footprint, and the other
9important work performed by contractors, inspectors,
10installers, engineers, and manufacturers that is often taken
11for granted; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we designate March 11, 2011 as "World Plumbing Day" in the
15State of Illinois; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17delivered to the World Plumbing Council as a symbol of our
18respect and esteem.
