SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
40 ILCS 5/2-105  from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 2-105

    Amends the General Assembly Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that, on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act, a person may not become a member of the General Assembly Retirement System. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing
5Section 2-105 as follows:
 
6    (40 ILCS 5/2-105)  (from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 2-105)
7    Sec. 2-105. Member. "Member": Until the effective date of
8this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly, members
9Members of the General Assembly of this State including persons
10who enter military service while a member of the General
11Assembly and any person serving as Governor, Lieutenant
12Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Comptroller, or
13Attorney General for the period of service in such office.
14    Until the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th
15General Assembly, any Any person who has served for 10 or more
16years as Clerk or Assistant Clerk of the House of
17Representatives, Secretary or Assistant Secretary of the
18Senate, or any combination thereof, may elect to become a
19member of this system while thenceforth engaged in such service
20by filing a written election with the board. Any person so
21electing shall be deemed an active member of the General
22Assembly for the purpose of validating and transferring any
23service credits earned under any of the funds and systems

1established under Articles 3 through 18 of this Code.
2    Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, on and
3after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th
4General Assembly, a person may not become a member of the
5retirement system created under this Article.

7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
