105 ILCS 5/34-18.45 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires each school board to establish an alternative basic education track focused in mathematics and reading for students performing one grade level or more below their current grade level according to current learning standards and the school district. Requires the State Board of Education to adopt standards for the alternative basic education track. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.53 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.53. Alternative basic education track. Each
8school board shall establish an alternative basic education
9track focused in mathematics and reading for students
10performing one grade level or more below their current grade
11level according to current learning standards and the school
12district. The State Board of Education shall, by rule, adopt
13standards for the alternative basic education track.

15    Sec. 34-18.45. Alternative basic education track. The
16board shall establish an alternative basic education track
17focused in mathematics and reading for students performing one
18grade level or more below their current grade level according
19to current learning standards and the school district. The
