SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-696 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Air Force Veteran license plates. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged a fee of $15 at original issuance, which shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-696 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-696 new)
7    Sec. 3-696. Air Force Veteran license plates.
8    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
10issue special registration plates designated as Air Force
11Veteran license plates. The special plates issued under this
12Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
13first division or motor vehicles of the second division
14weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this
15Section shall expire according to the multi-year procedure
16established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
17    (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
18wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
19documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany
20each application. The Secretary may allow the plates to be
21issued as vanity plates or personalized plates under Section
223-405.1 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or
23decals as provided under Section 3-412 of this Code.

1    (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
2$15 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
3registration fee. The $15 fee shall be deposited into the
4Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used by
5the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing
6costs.
 
7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
