SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Architects serve the public health, safety, and
3 welfare of people by designing structures for a broad range of
4 human activities and creating environments where individuals,
5 groups, and communities may thrive; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is
7 guided by duty and honor to serve architects, communities, and
8 the public at large; and in the spirit of civic engagement and
9 public service share the fundamental principles as fellow
10 citizens and as the voice of the architecture profession in
11 Illinois to achieve better, safer, more beautiful, and
12 sustainable communities; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The American Institute of Architects has thereby
14 established and sponsored Architecture Week each year to
15 celebrate and increase awareness of great architecture and its
16 impact around the world; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The State of Illinois boasts some of the world's
18 most famous historical and contemporary architectural
19 buildings and designed spaces, both rural and urban; historic
20 and contemporary; homes and skyscrapers and everything in
21 between; and

1     WHEREAS, The State of Illinois also had the nation's first
2 licensed architects, who became some of the most notable and
3 respected architects in American history; famous Illinois
4 architects include Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Daniel
5 Burnham, Mies van der Rohe, and Buckminster Fuller, among many
6 others; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The more than 4,000 architects and architectural
8 interns of the State of Illinois have been called upon by the
9 American Institute of Architects to participate in activities
10 in the communities throughout the State during Architecture
11 Week, such as presentations, public displays, grade school
12 visits, and civic design forums; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and
15 congratulate the members of the American Institute of
16 Architects as they celebrate Architecture Week, April 12
17 through 18, 2010 and urge the citizens of Illinois to join with
18 members of the organization by helping to improve our
19 communities; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the American Institute of Architects, Illinois
22 Council, as a symbol of our respect.
