SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Calvin Marcum of Aurora, former Senior
4 Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Aurora, who passed away
5 on January 30, 2010; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He served as Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian
7 Church from 1962 to 1982; he is remembered for his sermons and
8 compassionate counsel; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was remembered for inventing the Gee Dunk, a
10 family dessert consisting of ice cream, Hershey's chocolate
11 syrup, and peanuts, with Coke poured over it; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He loved attending the inaugurations for American
13 presidents, and attended all of them from 1969 to 2005; he was
14 in ill health and could not attend President Obama's, so his
15 family went for him; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a lifelong admirer of President Abraham
17 Lincoln and was laid to rest next to his parents in Oak Ridge
18 Cemetery in Springfield, the final resting place of President
19 Lincoln; his final wish was that his family meet at a
20 Springfield Steak'n Shake after the interment; and

1     WHEREAS, Pastor Marcum is survived by his wife, Twyla;
2 Pastor Marcum was the father of three proud children, Gwen
3 (Reverend Andrew) Morgan, Donald (Margaret) Marcum, and Stacey
4 (Randy) Aspen; his grandchildren are Benjamin Marcum, Dustin
5 (Monica) Marcum, Trent (Alison) Taylor, Curt Taylor, Michelle
6 (Nathan) Benevelli, Micah Morgan, Sarah Aspen, Derek Smith,
7 Rebecca (Steven) Outlaw, and Anna Morgan; he was also the
8 loving great-grandfather of Anthony Woolf, and Madison and Emma
9 Outlaw; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family, friends, and former congregation, the passing of
13 Pastor Calvin Marcum; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Pastor Calvin Marcum as a symbol of
16 our sincere sympathy.
