SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Lyman Shepard of Oak Park, who passed
4 away on December 28, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Lyman Shepard was an internationally known
6 lecturer on Frank Lloyd Wright and other noted Chicago
7 architects; he was born on October 30, 1922 in Oak Park and
8 passed away nearly on the one-year anniversary of the death of
9 his wife, Anna, to whom he had been married for 55 years; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Shepard was office manager for Paine Webber in
11 downtown Chicago; after his retirement he began doing slide
12 presentations on Frank Lloyd Wright; he was one of the original
13 13 founders of the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
14 Foundation and served on the board; and
 
15     WHEREAS, When he gave presentations on Frank Lloyd Wright,
16 Mr. Shepard would enter the room in a cape and special hat,
17 saying, "I am Frank Lloyd Wright and I am the world's greatest
18 architect," then proceed for more than 45 minutes without
19 referring to notes, discussing the most famous buildings Wright
20 had designed; it was a showstopper and he was in great demand
21 for this and lectures on Louis Sullivan and other architects,
22 appearing at clubs, libraries, and architectural organizations

1 as far away as Australia; and
 
2     WHEREAS, He and his wife were longtime members of First
3 Baptist Church of Oak Park, where he was an usher and member of
4 the governing board; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Lyman Shepard is survived by his son, Drake
6 (Beverly); and his two grandsons, Colton and Grant; therefore,
7 be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of Lyman Shepard; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Lyman Shepard as a symbol of our
14 sincere sympathy.
