SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Joseph "Joe" Sisolak of Waukegan, who
4 passed away on November 4, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Joseph Edward Sisolak, Jr., was born January 30,
6 1917, in North Chicago, to Joseph and Magdalena Polak Sisolak;
7 he was a lifelong Waukegan area resident, where he lived with
8 his wife Marie of 69 years; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church
10 In Waukegan and the Professional Golfers Association of
11 America, Illinois Section, for 54 years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He learned to play golf in the early 1930s while a
13 caddy at Glen Flora Country Club, where he became caddy master
14 and assistant pro; in 2003 he was elected to the PGA, Illinois
15 Section, Golf Hall of Fame to recognize both his
16 accomplishments as a player and the untold thousands of hours
17 he volunteered teaching golf to youngsters in the Waukegan area
18 and helping disabled veterans at Downey Veterans Hospital in
19 North Chicago; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He and his wife Marie volunteered for 52 years
21 with the Swing Club at Downey Veterans Hospital, where the golf

1 course was named in their honor; he taught junior boys and
2 girls how to play golf at his golf driving range in the 1950s,
3 Bonnie Brook Golf Course, the First Tee Program at Foss Park
4 Golf Course, and the Joe Sisolak Park on Blanchard Road in
5 Waukegan; the park was named in his honor to recognize his
6 contributions to the Waukegan community; and
 
7     WHEREAS, His golfing honors include: member of the Waukegan
8 Sports Hall of Fame; Exchange Club, Book of Golden Deeds Award;
9 Life Member of the PGA Half Century Club; first recipient of
10 the Chick Evans Award; golf instructor of the 1991-92 Waukegan
11 High School State championship girls golf team; and Grand
12 Marshal (along with his wife, Marie) of the 1998 Fourth of July
13 parade; and eight of his former pupils went on to be golf
14 professionals; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Joseph Sisolak is survived by his sons, Tom
17 Sisolak and wife, Jane, and Bill Sisolak and wife, Vira; his
18 grandchildren, Mary Beth Sisolak Wagner and husband, Dale,
19 Michael Sisolak and wife, Ilyse, and Brian Sisolak and wife,
20 Ericka; two great-grandchildren, Zoie and Mackenzie Sisolak;
21 his sister, Millie Semasko; and many nieces, nephews, and
22 loving friends; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Sisolak; and be
4 it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Jospeh Sisolak as a symbol of our
7 sincere sympathy.
