SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Bobbie D. Hawkins, who passed away on
4 March 18, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Bobbie Hawkins was born on July 7, 1942, in Dumas,
6 Arkansas; her parents were Amos Burns and Jessie Mae Smith; she
7 married the love of her life, Jon L. Hawkins, on December 11,
8 1965; and
 
9     WHEREAS, In 1945, Bobbie Hawkins and her family moved to
10 Chicago; after moving to Chicago, she attended Calhoun
11 Elementary School, and then briefly attended Marshall High
12 School before graduating from Hirsch High School; in 1966, she
13 earned her bachelor's degree in education from Roosevelt
14 University; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Bobbie Hawkins had a long and distinguished career
16 in education; she began her career at Beethoven Elementary
17 School in 1966; she continued her career at Sojourner Truth
18 Elementary School and was later transferred to Bennett
19 Elementary School; during her career, she was consistently
20 rated "Excellent" and "Superior" for her dedication and hard
21 work; after her retirement in 2001, she served as a literacy
22 volunteer at Blue Gargoyle Community Services; and

1     WHEREAS, Bobbie Hawkins enjoyed traveling with her family
2 and watching live entertainment, particularly musicals and
3 live dramas; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Bobbie Hawkins is survived by her husband, Jon L.
5 Hawkins; her daughter, Diane M. Hawkins; her mother, Jessie Mae
6 Smith; her sister, Joyce Renee Burns; her nephews, Craig Allen
7 Burns, Keith Burns, Nathan Burns, and Thomas L. Hawkins IV; her
8 nieces, Valerie Hawkins, Sandra Hawkins, and Sonya Campbell;
9 and her many colleagues, other relatives, and friends;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 her family and friends, the passing of Bobbie D. Hawkins; and
14 be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Bobbie Hawkins as an expression of
17 our sympathy.
