SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Stephen J. Andras of Aurora, who passed
4 away on April 12, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 12, 1923, in Temple,
6 Pennsylvania, the son of Michael and Anna (Kielar) Andras; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He served with the first division of the United
8 States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Islands
9 and was discharged on January 18, 1946 after being wounded in
10 the line of duty; he received a Purple Heart for his dedicated
11 service; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Andras was a dedicated publisher who retired
13 as president from the Strathmore Printing Company in 1985 after
14 35 years of service; he then owned and ran Cogan Productions, a
15 supplier of Catholic catechisms to ministries worldwide until
16 his death; Mr. Andras was an active member of Holy Angels
17 Church; he had a strong faith which was evident throughout his
18 life; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Andras was committed to serving the community;
20 he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Serra Club, Toastmaster's,
21 and the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley; he also

1 served on the board for Rush Copley Hospital and was the
2 campaign manager for former Aurora mayor, Al McCoy; Mr. Andras
3 was dedicated to increasing awareness of the blind, a generous
4 donor to many organizations, and was active in his
5 philanthropic work; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael
7 and Anna; his wife, Betty; his daughter, Susan; his brother,
8 John; and his sister, Anna; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Andras is survived by his daughters, Carol
10 Andras and Francine (Alan) Eggleston; his son, Stephen (Debbie)
11 Andras; and his grandchildren, Traci, Carrie, and Kyle
12 Eggleston, and Adam and Madeline Andras; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 his family and friends, the passing of Stephen J. Andras; and
16 be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Stephen J. Andras as a symbol of our
19 sincere sympathy.
