SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters devoted his life to preaching
3 the word of God and through the teachings of Jesus Christ
4 promoted a life of grace, salvation, kindness to others, and
5 forgiveness; and
 
6     WHEREAS, On the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2009 Pastor
7 Fred was suddenly taken from his family and his congregation in
8 a tragic act of violence; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Fred Winters was born December 4, 1963, in Kansas
10 City, Missouri; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He graduated from Raytown South High School in
12 1982; he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from
13 Southwest Baptist University in 1985, received his Master's
14 degree in Systematic Theology and Church History from Wheaton
15 Graduate School in 1986, and a Master's of Divinity from
16 Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991; he went on to
17 earn a Doctorate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters had served as pastor of the
20 First Baptist Church of Maryville since 1987; the church began
21 with a congregation of 32 members and today has over 1,200

1 people in attendance over the course of four weekend services;
2 and
 
3     WHEREAS, Pastor Fred and Cindy Lee (Jackson) met in the
4 summer of 1984 and were married September 7, 1987 and were the
5 proud and loving parents of two children: Alysia Grace and
6 Cassidy Hope; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Pastor Fred is the former president of the
8 Illinois Baptist State Association and an adjunct professor for
9 Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father, Jack
11 Bailey Winters; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters is survived by his wife,
13 Cindy; his daughters, Alysia Grace and Cassidy Hope; his
14 mother, Jacqueline; his brothers, Karl (Ramona), Joe (Mary),
15 Zach (Karen), Andrew, and John; his sister, Anna (Jim)
16 Sublette; and his grandfather, Dr. Harlan Hannon; therefore, be
17 it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, with heavy
20 hearts, the passing of Pastor Fred Winters and offer our
21 sincerest condolences to his family, his congregation, and all

1 who were touched by his life and his mission; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Pastor Fred Winters as a symbol of
4 our sincere sympathy.
