SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Roger Sullivan Murphy of Holiday Shores,
4 who passed away on December 30, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan Murphy was born July 3, 1939, in
6 Olney, to Dr. Raymond and Lois Murphy; he married Donna Maria
7 Zielinski on March 24, 1965, in Carbondale; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, he
9 attended the University of Pennsylvania, Southern Illinois
10 University Carbondale, and served in the Peace Corps in
11 Micronesia for two years after his graduation; upon returning
12 to the states, he graduated in 1972 from St. Louis University
13 School of Law; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in
15 St. Louis County until entering private practice in Belleville,
16 later moving his office to Edwardsville; an active community
17 volunteer, he served for many years on the board of directors
18 of the Holishor Association, including one term as its
19 president, in addition to working with community committees; he
20 served on the board of directors of Treehouse Wildlife Center
21 in addition to supporting a variety of other charitable causes;
22 and

1     WHEREAS, He liked to travel, golf, sports car races, and,
2 until recently, the Rams; in his final months, he was adamant
3 that his obituary acknowledge that he "was a lifelong liberal
4 Democrat and proud of it"; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank
6 and Fred Roberson; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Roger Murphy is survived by his wife, Donna; his
8 two sons, Brennan Murphy and Eric Murphy; his three sisters,
9 Karen (Don) Stremme, Lois (Charles) Ferguson, and Joyce (Brad)
10 Binder; his two brothers, Bob Murphy and Raymond (Georgine)
11 Murphy; his sister-in-law Karen (Jerry) McCann, their children
12 and grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Jay Zielinski and his
13 daughter, Casey; his special friends, Ken and Sharon Dulle; and
14 others too numerous to mention; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17 his family and friends, the passing of Roger Sullivan Murphy;
18 and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Roger Sullivan Murphy as a symbol of
21 our sincere sympathy.
