SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new

    Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution to provide that a marriage can only be between one man and one woman. Provides that the uniting of persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to Article XIII
9of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

12    (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new)
13SECTION 9. SAME SEX MARRIAGE
14    Only marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid
15or recognized in Illinois. The uniting of persons of the same
16sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar
17same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in
18Illinois.

SCHEDULE
20    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
21declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
22Constitutional Amendment Act.
