HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Russell
4Edward Christian of Grayslake, who passed away on August 8,
52010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Russell Christian was born in Waukegan on
7September 5, 1928; his parents were Stanley and Hazel (nee
8Kapheim) Christian; he married Shirley Oilschlager on February
927, 1965, in Lindenhurst; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Russell Christian graduated from Waukegan High
11School in 1946; he served his country with pride and
12distinction as a member of the United States Army's 11th
13Airborne Division; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Russell Christian served as an accounting
15supervisor with the Frank G. Hough Company/International
16Harvester/Dresser Industries in Libertyville for many years
17until his retirement in 1987; in 1989, he was elected to the
18position of Avon Township supervisor, serving the residents of
19the Round Lake communities, Hainesville, Grayslake, Third Lake
20and surrounding unincorporated areas; he served in that
21position until April of 2006; and

1    WHEREAS, Russell Christian was a charter member of the VFW
2Ron Hill Memorial Post 2245; he served on the Grayslake High
3School Board of Education and served as a Grayslake Village
4trustee for 12 years; he served as executive director of the
5Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member and
6chairman of the Grayslake Economic Development Commission; he
7was active in the Grayslake Lions Club, the Military Order of
8the Cooties Pup Tent IL081, the American Legion Post 0659, and
9the St. Therese Janssen Foundation Board of Directors; he was
10also a charter member of the Grayslake Kiwanis Club and a
11member of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Russell Christian is fondly remembered by many in
13the Round Lake and Grayslake areas as "Santa", a role that gave
14him much pleasure; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Russell Christian was preceded in death by his
16parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and
17Rosella Oilschlager; his brother, Richard Christian; and his
18grandson, Grant Russell Christian; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Russell Christian is survived by his loving wife
20of 45 years, Shirley; his children, Karen (Kirk Smith)
21Christian Smith, John (Shelly) Christian, and Patti Gail (Jack
22Wells) Byers; his grandchildren, Lucas and Alec Christian,
23Benjamin and Molly Smith, Michael (Lisa) Lessard, and Joshua

1(Freddie) Johnson; and his 2 great-grandchildren; therefore,
2be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
6Russell Edward Christian; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Russell Christian as an expression
9of our sympathy.
